#933 This is a GAME-CHANGER

Why do I open every coaching session by asking folks to name their wins from the prior week or two?

Because we suck at it, like a personal trainer who sees your weakest body part and focuses on exercises to improve that part,

I recognize that your wins muscle is flabby and ignored with and focus on building it up..

Everyone comes prepared with a litany of issues that need improvement and shortcomings jump to the front of mind in a second, but wins? I rarely hear about them voluntarily.

There are a few issues at play.  One is that we’re taught not to brag. Another is that achievers, like those who participate in my coaching programs, are continually seeking improvement.  That’s OK, but not if it includes constant self-flagellation.

Some well-meaning folks have, and continue, to look for what’s wrong like it’s the prize at the bottom of their Cracker Jacks.

There are a lot of reasons for this, and corrections have their place, but most people forget that mixing in a healthy (authentic) dose of compliments make the corrections easier to hear and more comfortable to integrate.

Looking back over the prior week and remembering what you did excellently is a gamechanger.  It makes you feel better, and when you feel better, you like what you do more.  When you like what you do more, you work harder at it.  When you work harder, you do better and, again, when you recognize the better that you’ve done, you feel better.  How is that for a nice rotation to jump into?
