#813 Birds of a feather...

My mom used to annoy me with this phrase:  “Show me your company and I’ll tell you who you are.”  She’d pull that out whenever I hung around with guys she deemed undesirable.

In Rocky I, Rocky grabbed little Marie off the corner and said, “You hand around with nice people you get nice friends, you hang around with smart people you get smart friends, you hang around with yoyo people you get yoyo friends.  It’s simple mathematics.”

The bible backs all of this up by saying, “Beware, evil companions do corrupt good morals.”

In the famed Framingham heart study it was found that if your friends become obese there is a 57% greater likelihood that you will become obese.  In close, mutual friends, the percentage went way up.  There, if one became obese, the other had a 171% increased chance of becoming obese too.

In Think and grow rich, Napoleon Hill said that rich folks have mastermind groups.  These are described as groups of high achievers who meet regularly to push each other and keep each other on track.

It’s a simple thing really.  Look at your goals; visualize your dreams and spend time with other people who share similar visions.  The thought is this.  If I’m a nickel thrown in among a bunch of pennies, I don’t have to work hard and become a quarter to be bigger or shine brighter than those guys.
