How to get Fired:

-Talk more than you listen

-Blame others for poor outcomes

-Gossip

-Know for sure that your way is the only way

-Lack empathy

-Fail to connect personally with others

-Seek counsel from sycophants

-Believe that your title/position makes you right

-Feel entitled

-Close your mind to opposing opinions

-Believe you’re the smartest person in the room

-Disengage with people you find challenging

-Give up on finding common ground

-Stop seeking answers

-Seek rapport inauthentically

-Lead with hubris

-Hole up in your office

-Be less than honest with yourself

-Summon folks to your office and take calls or reply to emails while meeting with them

-Expect to be understood without understanding

-Believe that THEY need to get along with YOU

Getting fired sucks but it should never be a surprise. Run my list over your recent tenure.  This list is especially applicable to people in leadership positions, but anyone can review it and, with a little self-reflection, reduce their chances of being fired.
